The anti-war left's true colors
A columnist at the LA Times, Joel Stein, created a furor this week by saying that he doesn't support our troops because he's against the Iraq war, and it doesn't make sense to be anti-war and pro-troops at the same time.
While Mr. Stein's notions about the Iraq war and the U.S. military are utterly facile (see Major John's superb response to the Stein column), give him credit for being honest. Anti-war leftists like to feign support for the troops, but that "support" is a sham intended to deflect (often valid) accusations that they are unpatriotic. At least Stein has the guts to come out and say what most lefties truly believe: that our men and women in uniform are nothing more than "a fighting tool of American imperialism".
UPDATE: Major John points me to Hugh Hewitt's evisceration of Stein on his radio show. More proof of what a vacuous (albeit, honest) twit that Stein is.

After hugh Hewitt's disection of Mr. Stein - I am not so sure he really is being "honest".
Also, where is the virtue in openly proclaiming yourself as a bad person holding a vile position? Those that lie about "supporting the troops but not the war" at least might be showing a sense of shame... unlike Mr. Stein. Just a thought anyway.
Thanks for the link, BTW

I just emailed Major John back a reply to his comment, saying that his point is well taken but I believe it's good when we have transparency regarding bad people who hold vile positions - why not let the rest of America see them clearly for what they are.
And I don't think it's shame that motivates the anti-war types to deception in this regard, but rather cold calculation. They know a full exposure of their true attitudes would marginalize them in public discourse even more than they already are.
At least the Major and I both agree that Stein's column is truly execrable...
